The Tubus Tara is one of the strongest low-rider racks made.  The stabilizing loop that crosses over the tire adds strength and rigidity to the system.  The low-rider mounting system lower’s your pannier’s center of gravity, improving your bike’s handling.  This is one of the best choices for long self-supported bicycle touring, and it has been the most popular Tubus front rack.  The Tara fits many bikes with 26 and 700C (27 inch) wheels.

NOTE:  If you are running tires that only require the standard size Tara, but might be using wider tires, or are thinking about transferring your Tara to another bike with wider tires, you may want to consider the Big Apple version for more versatility.

  • The Tara’s rated capacity is 33 lbs.  That is the maximum weight you should ever add to your front forks. If you are headed out for a long distance, heavily loaded tour, your Tubus rack could be the difference between a smooth tour or a breakdown.  The Tara has one of the best mounting system I have seen.  It adjusts forward and back, and up and down, so if your rack fittings are poorly placed, it should still fit securely.
  • Weight:  360 grams (12.7 ounces).
  • If you are going on a long self-supported bicycle tour, then this rack may be the rack you want!
  • The Tara has extra mounting tabs for mounting fenders directly to the rack, so you will not have to share your behind-the-fork-tip mounting eyelet between rack and fenders.  There is plenty of clearance for most tires and fenders within the rack hoop.  For bikes with very large tires, some 29’er bikes for instance, see the Tubus Tara Big Apple.
  • Please note that bicycle manufactures don’t always place their mid-fork braze-on rack fittings in exactly the same relationship to the lower fork-tip eyelets, and there are variations in bike design, fork angle, and fork rake etc.  This means that even with the Tara’s built in adjustments, you may or may not be able to get your rack top-rails perfectly level.  Don’t worry.  Your packs will stay mounted securely even if your rack is not level.
  • The Tubus Tara is made from chromoly steel tubing.  The top-rails are made from 10mm diameter tubes.  The “hoop” tubing is 14mm in diameter.
  • Visit Tubus Fit Solutions for a variety of solutions for rack fitting problems, including extra-small bikes that need extra-long upper rack mounting stays to reach the seatstay fittings, mounting front racks on forks without mid-fork rack fittings, heel clearance problems with panniers due to short chainstay length, mounting racks on race bikes or bikes without rack mounting fittings, and more.
